New Rolex Explorer II reference 226570
Il Rolex Explorer II this year marks half a century of life since it was presented way back in 1971. The innovations brought by the new model of the Rolex Explorer II, reference 226570, I'm:
- Il new 3285 movement, with Parachrom spiral blue resistant to magnetic fields, skeletonized escapement wheel and other innovations that allow for greater precision and better efficiency in exploiting the power reserve
- The luminous coating of hands and indexes is now made in Chromalight, a long-lasting luminescent paint with a blue hue
- The case has been made more "elongated", making it thinner and making the lugs lighter
- The bracelet is widened, in order to improve the general proportions of the watch, in turn making the large 42 mm case appear more compact by contrast.
- The "ghost" spheres disappear, i.e. the hands with the first black part that appear to float on the dial. Now the spheres are completely colored
- The black dial becomes shiny
Big absent from the new one Rolex Explorer II it was the ceramic bezel, expected by many, ourselves included – and for this we make public amends. Evidently Rolex he felt that for a tool watch, such as Rolex Explorer II wants to be, the ceramic bezel, resistant to scratches but fragile to the most violent impacts, is not suitable.
The new Daytona and Datejust dials
Rolex presented some new ones meteorite dials for the Rolex Daytona. THE meteorite dials they are obtained from fragments of one of these celestial bodies that fell in Namibia. The new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Lady‑Datejust with diamond coating it looks like a wrist jewel for women. Over a thousand diamonds between case, dial and President bracelet in yellow gold they give this model with a small case – 28 millimeters – a notable light, ideal for enhancing the slender feminine wrists of the ladies who will wear it.

The choices of Rolex regarding the new models to be presented to Geneva 2021 they were quite conservative. In a context such as that of the economic crisis caused by government measures taken following the spread of the Coronavirus, the Rolex watches are seen as a safe haven asset whose demand, far from fading, accelerates. It is therefore reasonable to expect that a company like Rolex, which customers often say “Because you can't find new Rolexes, if not with very long waiting times?” you certainly don't think about distorting the current production, which enjoys an enthusiastic reception from the public, to say the least.
However, even at the risk of offering a polemical target, we find it appropriate to point out how Rolex made a defeatist choice. In particular, the fiftieth anniversary ofExplorer II it could have been an opportunity to introduce some new features into a watch that many still see as "the poor brother of GMT”. Since it is not one of the "sacred monsters" of rolex, as I am instead Dayton, il Submariners, il GMT and datejust, one could well risk new materials, such as titanium, new dial colors, such as slate grey, a rubber bracelet oysterflex, in short, some more "substantial" experimentation. Even just offering the again Rolex Explorer II in the diameter of 40 millimetres, perhaps alongside and not replacing the model with the 42 mm case, it would be an interesting choice given that it is a watch that acts as a link between "massive" sports watches such as the Rolex Submariner, of which it has the robustness, and elegant sportsmen like Rolex Daytona e rolex datejust, with which it shares portability – under the shirt, the Rolex Explorer II it slides well, thanks to the absence of knurling and rotating rings -.
