Panerai Radiomir Eilean, the time of sailing ships

Dr. N.

Ferragosto it's sea time: Chronosect takes you to dream of ocean waves, with Panerai and a fascinating sailing ship from the past ...

Panerai presented his latest watch, the Panerai Radiomir Eilean, dedicated to a sailing ship that Panerai he restored and elected as a symbol of his own maison.

The ship Island is a sailing ship, launched in Scotland in 1936, made of precious Burmese teak wood and remained for years in disuse conditions. Panerai bought this boat in 2006 and, after a meticulous restoration, led it to sail again, crossing the Atlantic Ocean in 2012.

But why really the Eilean? The reason is obvious: the launch year of this sailing ship coincides with the start of production of the first prototype of diving watch for the raiders of the Royal Italian Navy. La maison Fiorentina therefore wants to celebrate two objects of high craftsmanship made at the same time to face the open sea: the Panerai Radiomir , Eilean ship.

The ship Island it is also used for representation by Panerai: it is a sailing ship with the charm of yesteryear, ideal for setting the presentations of its new watch models, all linked to each other by the seafaring inspiration.

Il Panerai Radiomir Eilean, reference PAM01243, it will be built in two limited series of 449 pieces each, over the course of two years. Of the elegant Scottish two masts, the Panerai Radiomir Island it doesn't just take its name: the hand-stitched stitching on the strap is reminiscent of the on-board seat finishes and the dial echoes the teak wood motif. On the caseback, screwed into the 45 mm case, containing a manual winding movement, the inscription is finally reported "Eilean 1936".
