New Tudor 2021 models: the previews

Dr. N.

As well as the "older sister" Rolex, also Tudor will present its new models in virtual format at Watches & Wonders in Geneva on April 7, 2021. And as well as for the "older sister" Rolex, also for Tudor the toto-models were unleashed. We have collected here the most interesting rumors about the new models of a House, Tudors, which in recent years has positioned itself at the center of the watchmaking scene, combining mechanical innovation and matrix stylistic features vintage.

Let's go immediately to see what news is expected from Tudor for 2021.

Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT

Il Tudor Black Bay 58  is, within the lucky line Black Bay of Tudor, the model that has perhaps captured the public's attention the most in recent times. The will of Tudor to push further on the theme of neo-vintage that is, on watches with a style inspired by the past, but in a modern construction context, with updated materials, processes and components, it has been rewarded with considerable success. The case of the Tudor Black Bay 58 it is three millimeters thinner and two narrower than that of the Tudor Black Bay original, ensuring an easier wearability.

The specialised farming model GMT current of Tudor is made on the largest case, that of Black Bay "Original": this leaves a void in the line of Tudor which could be bridged by a new model. A Tudor Black Bay 58 with function GMT would suit those users who want the aesthetics of the Tudor Black Bay GMT in a more “wearable” format like that of Tudor Black Bay 58.

Tudor Black Bay GMT Coke

It is certainly no secret that Tudor draw inspiration, for its models, from the past successes of the "older sister" Rolex. The whole line Tudor Black Bay is an excellent example of this, taking inspiration from the style of Rolex Submariner e Rolex GMT of the fifties and sixties.

The stylistic relationship between the vintage Rolex GMT and the current Tudor GMT

One of the models Rolex GMT particularly appreciated by collectors is the so-called version "Coke", that is with the black and red bezel, instead of blue and red as in the image above. Please remember, incidentally, that the two-color division of the bezel is intended to allow rapid identification, at a glance, of the second time zone as day or night.

At this point, various possibilities open up:

  • Il Tudor Black Bay GMT "Pepsi" it goes out of production and is replaced by an identical model, always on a “large” case, but with a bezel "Coke" black and red;
  • Il Tudor Black Bay GMT "Pepsi" it remains in production and is joined by an identical model, again on a “large” case, but with a bezel "Coke" black and red;
  • Il Tudor Black Bay GMT "Pepsi" remains in production being joined by a new model, a GMT on “small” case, with ring "Coke" black and red to further distinguish it from the "big brother" in blue and red.

Knowing Tudors, it is likely that, in order not to upset the "old" customers, it chooses to combine the new model with the existing one. Being a house that has shown us some interesting innovations and that it cannot afford, unlike its "big sister" rolex, to merely present a different color of an existing model, but which always needs new models to capture the attention of new customers, if we were to focus on one of these options we would focus on the third, that is the new Tudor Black Bay GMT 58 "Coke".

The others: Tudor Pelagos, Tudor Black Bay 36 and… the Ranger?

One of the lines on which Tudor it could mix up is there Pelagos. Il Tudor Pelagos, appreciated diving watch in titanium, it could receive new colors, including the combination of green bezel and dial present in the reconstruction above, taken from the Internet. A watch that will certainly satisfy those who like the aesthetics of Rolex Submariner 116610LV "Hulk" but he is not particularly eager to shell out large sums to put a "Hulk" on his wrist. Other news in the line Tudor Pelagos could relate to the color of the case and bracelet: sandblasted titanium is in fact a surface that aesthetically would lend itself well to a PVD coating.

Another area in which Tudor could present some interesting news is the line Tudor Black Bay undated, in diameters 32, 36 and 41 millimeters. This field watch currently equipped with black, gold or blue dials it could follow in the footsteps of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual, recently renovated and equipped with dials of various colors. Being Tudor a brand that looks to young customers and places itself in a more accessible price range than rolex, it is not unusual to think of bright colors for the line Tudor Black Bay undated.

A watch that Tudor quietly taken out of production recently is the Tubdor Tidy. A bracelet perhaps not aesthetically perfect and of fairly large measures have decreed the lack of success of this model, which, however, was not without its strengths. Two of the most popular features of the Tudor Rangers are the arrow balls, which differ from the usual ones "Snowflake" di Tudors, and the dial similar to that of the Rolex Explorer. It could not therefore be ruled out that Tudor bring the Ranger back into production, perhaps with a reduction in diameter, an in-house movement Tudor and a bracelet with finals integrated into the case.
