Breguet: the Tradition line

Dr. N.

Breguet is a watchmaking company that cares a lot about its history. That's why the collection exists tradition, which, despite the name, does not have the aesthetics of conventional watches.

The founder of the maison, Abraham-Louis Breguet, was not only a pioneer of watchmaking, but also of its industrialization. Its ability to make movements that can be easily reproduced in series is just one of the reasons that led to the spread of its timepieces in late eighteenth-century Europe. The genius of Breguet was to create a system, the subscription, which allows you to buy a watch by paying it in installments.

The system of Subscription, which gives the name to the watches themselves, is also a forerunner of the current one crowdfounding: as always happens, in watchmaking and beyond, there is never anything really new under the sun ...

Well, what is the link between the Subscription, simple and robust pocket watches of the late eighteenth century, e the modern line Tradition di Breguet? There are two elements of continuity. First of all, the arrangement of the gears, which recalls that of those simple pocket watches. Furthermore, the movement is easily visible, as it was in the Subscription, only by using the skeletonization instead of a lid on the back as was the case in the clock over two centuries ago.

- Watches of the line Tradition di Breguet they are only apparently simple. The retrograde seconds hand is already a not inconsiderable complication, not to mention complications such as GMT and chronograph in some models. The manufacturing quality is also at the highest levels, as well as the technical innovation, given for example by the silicon spiral. Breguet's Tradition models are available in versions for men and women, with the latter often featuring excellent jeweler workmanship.
