Omega Speedmaster

Omega Speedmaster

The watches

The Omega Speedmaster, also known as the “Moonwatch” for its participation in the Apollo missions, is perhaps the most recognizable chronograph in the watchmaking scene.

It is originally a simple hand-wound chronograph with plexi glass and steel caseback. What is the secret of its success? The Omega Speedmaster Professional is a robust, reliable, easy-to-read chronograph with an elegantly sporty line, which goes well with the original Omega bracelet as well as with fabric or leather NATO straps.

Initially powered by a manual winding movement designed by Albert Piguet, the Speedmaster was later proposed in the “Automatic” version. To the glass in esalite, also known as “Plexi”, Omega has added the sapphire one. In addition to the steel caseback with the famous seahorse and the words “The first watch worn on the Moon” and “Flight-qualified by NASA for all manned space missions”, the “Moonwatch” is offered with a visible glass caseback.

Today the Omega Speedmaster is also available with the advanced “Co-Axial” movement. The dial, however, inspired by automotive motifs and highly legible, has kept its timeless style unchanged. Countless celebratory versions of NASA's Apollo missions in which the Omega Speedmaster "Moonwatch" took part: the "Eyes on the Stars", the "From Moon To Mars", the "Silver Snoopy Award", the "Dark Side of the Moon "...

For smaller wrists, the Speedmaster is offered in a 38mm “Reduced” version; for those who love complications, there is the "Moonphase" with phases of the moon. In short, if you love sports chronographs, an Omega Speedmaster cannot be missing from your collection. Especially since the prices of the “Speedy” in recent years have only grown: an Omega Speedmaster today also appears to be a valid investment in terms of preserving value.
